Impurity in a Luttinger liquid: A numerical study of the finite-size energy spectrum and of the orthogonality catastrophe exponent.

چکیده
The behavior of a single impurity in a one-dimensional Luttinger liquid is numerically investigated by means of the density matrix renormalization group. By analyzing the finite size scaling behavior of the low energy spectrum, we confirm the theoretical prediction of Kane and Fisher [Phys. Rev. Lett. 68, 1220 (1992)] both for attractive and repulsive interactions. Moreover, we calculate the exponent of the orthogonality catastrophe, which gives a further support to the above theoretical prediction. 71.10.Pm,72.15Nj Typeset using REVTEX

Loschmidt echo and the many-body orthogonality catastrophe in a qubit-coupled Luttinger liquid.
We investigate the many-body generalization of the orthogonality catastrophe by studying the generalized Loschmidt echo of Luttinger liquids (LLs) after a global change of interaction. It decays exponentially with system size and exhibits universal behavior: the steady state exponent after quenching back and forth n times between 2 LLs (bang-bang protocol) is 2n times bigger than that of the ad...
متن کاملEffect of finite impurity mass on the Anderson orthogonality catastrophe in one dimension.
A one-dimensional tight-binding Hamiltonian describes the evolution of a single impurity interacting locally with N electrons. The impurity spectral function has a power-law singularity A(ω) ∝| ω− ω0 |−1+β with the same exponent β that characterizes the logarithmic decay of the quasiparticle weight Z with the number of electrons N , Z ∝ N−β. The exponent β is computed by (1) perturbation theory...
متن کاملAbsence of Orthogonality Catastrophe after a Spatially Inhomogeneous Interaction Quench in Luttinger Liquids.
We investigate the Loschmidt echo, the overlap of the initial and final wave functions of Luttinger liquids after a spatially inhomogeneous interaction quench. In studying the Luttinger model, we obtain an analytic solution of the bosonic Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations after quenching the interactions within a finite spatial region. As opposed to the power-law temporal decay following a potenti...
متن کاملHow the Kondo ground state avoids the orthogonality catastrophe
In the presence of a magnetic impurity the spin-up and down band states are modified differently by the impurity. If the multi-electron scalar product (MESP) between the occupied spin-up and down states approaches zero then this defines an orthogonality catastrophe. In the present paper the MESP is investigated for the FAIR (Friedel Artificial Iserted Resonance) solution for a Friedel-Anderson ...
متن کاملCombined effects of pressure, temperature, and magnetic field on the ground state of donor impurities in a GaAs/AlGaAs quantum heterostructure
In the present work, the exact diagonalization method had been implemented to calculate the ground state energy of shallow donor impurity located at finite distance along the growth axis in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure in the presence of a magnetic field taken to be along z direction. The impurity binding energy of the ground state had been calculated as a function of confining frequency and mag...
